12 Web3 games you should to keep an eye on in 2023
Rough market conditions have almost become a standard this year. The number of macro factors, including high inflation and decelerating economic growth, has led to uncertainty, as well as a series of rises and falls in the blockchain industry.
Despite all the difficulties, Web3 gaming continues to be the most heavily invested category in tech history with more than $15B USD raised in less than two years. And this has yielded great results: the past year brought us a variety of groundbreaking blockchain games with compelling gameplay and high-level graphics, such as Superior, Drunk Robots, and Aurory, which we covered before. These new games have developed a rich ecosystem that allows players to co-create content and play without any major costs, or, in some cases, for free. But this is just the beginning.
In this article, I will introduce you to the next generation of blockchain games that are going to be released in the next few years. To select these twelve titles, I have researched the top industry media, including social media, and recent industry events, like GAM3 Awards. At the same time, the main selection standards were breakthrough gameplay and community feedback. In short, the selected titles firstly should be about actual entertainment and then about earning and tokenomics.
For your convenience, these twelve projects are organized into three groups, where the games in the first one are running Beta testing, the second group has released Alpha versions, and the third one is under active development and does not have a working prototype. Please also note that the titles are arranged in a random order, and this article obviously contains my personal opinion.
Group I: Beta testing
The Harvest
The Harvest is a third-person high-profile shooter involving complex team play tactics and designed for mass audiences. At this point, The Harvest is only available for Windows users. The game tells the story of a deserted planet, O’Ree-Jin, rich with the important mineral, the Essence of life, and simultaneously discovered by four different civilizations. Players have to venture to the deserted planet in four teams with three heroes in each to harvest the Essence and eliminate enemies in matches lasting for 10 minutes.
The game includes four main heroes that are truly unique in the way they move, shoot, and use special abilities.
Duke is a member of the Drifters Commonwealth, a nomadic system of clans. This agile warrior is carrying a jetpack and a rocket launcher and can surprise enemies with a power dive.
Alith from a ruthless and authoritarian Imperial Triarchy best suits the players seeking to quickly demolish the enemy and prepare for the next attack. She bears two shotguns and a quantum blade. On top of that, she can dash 10 meters away in any direction.
Kira from the Ascendancy faction is armed with a submachine light needler and can manipulate the light by launching forward projections of herself. This hero is good for the players who choose to outsmart their enemies, rather than outgun them.
Sahad from the Sons of Venon, a spiritual group hunting for dangerous lifeforms, is a sharpshooter armed with a rifle. On top of that, Sahad can grab everything, including enemies, with his hook.
The game loop is pretty simple: you need to kill the enemy NPCs and capture harvesting points, kill the enemy players and revive your teammates, but your main goal is to harvest the Essence.
Before going into the battle, the user will be able to choose 8 of 15 gaming cards for the deck to select the special abilities. The first version of the game includes 132 unique gaming cards, with 33 cards for each of four heroes. 72 cards are NFTs available in the mystery boxes sold on the Fractal and Binance NFT marketplaces. The remaining 60 non-NFT cards are free-to-play and can be used by all the players. Some cards bring passive abilities to characters, like increasing the movement speed, and other cards need to be activated by the player. Example: becoming invisible for 20 seconds.
At this point the tokenomics of the project is still being developed, but the team aims to launch the $HAR token and the in-game soft currency EOL to reward the most active players on the leaderboard and the players completing daily quests.
The developer of the game, Falco studio, is a new name in the Web3 gaming industry, and The Harvest is the only game in its portfolio. At the same time, the team members have a good track record in traditional gaming and blockchain companies. Namely, the CEO and founder of Falco Luiz Piccini had been working on a mobile air combat simulator Sky Warriors before, while other key officers used to develop P2P transactions and blockchain applications in different companies.
In a nutshell, The Harvest has good chances to become an entertaining e-sport with a huge army of fans all over the world, as its pre-alpha tournaments have already attracted lots of gamers with lucrative prizes in tokens and NFTs. At the moment, the studio has rolled out the closed beta and announced the official release on Steam in Q2 2023. Yet, it is not clear how the game will maintain its NFT functionality, considering the fact that Steam does not support it.
Undead Blocks
Undead Blocks is a real deal for the fans of good old zombie shooters looking to earn some in-game rewards. Players can participate in weekly leaderboards and challenges to earn in-game currency and swap it for items and weapons.
The game economy is based on two tokens, $UNDEAD and $ZBUX. $UNDEAD is used as the governance token and as the currency to purchase primary weapon loadouts. $ZBUX is divided into Standard and Gold. Players can earn Standard ZBUX by winning matches, participating in competitions, or opening loot boxes. You can earn Gold ZBUX, a stable in-game reward currency, valued at $0.10, for ranking on the leaderboard and completing achievements. Players can withdraw ZBUX from the platform.
Overall, the game loop is very simple: you choose a hero, who is dropped into the apocalyptic map with the initial set of a pistol and a combat knife. Every kill gives you the XP points, and you can receive a bonus for killing zombies with a headshot.
The game features four different modes, including Solo, where you have to survive as many zombie waves as possible; Squads, where you can team up with other players; SpeedRun, where you have to deal with a set number of zombie waves as fast as you can; and Massacre, where you need to kill maximum zombies in a set amount of time.
The playable Beta for Windows and Mac is available on the Wagyu page, and the final release is scheduled for 2023. The most impressive thing in the game is that everyone can join it absolutely for free and still earn the rewards secured by the sophisticated P2E model and pegged to dollar value. To build this sustainable financial ecosystem, Grant Haseley, the founder of Wagyu, relied on his extensive experience in data analysis and modeling in the banking and insurance sector.
In terms of gameplay, Undead Blocks is harder than it seems. You have to stay alert all the time as zombies are coming from all directions. Undead Blocks can be compared to Left4Dead, as players do not make their way through the levels, but need to survive within a limited space.
Illuvium
Illuvium is a highly-anticipated game for the whole Web3 community with an incredible mixture of the open-world RPG and auto-battler genre, and a fascinating story behind it. And, yes, the project has already launched a working prototype!
You have received a distress call from a mysterious planet and arrived there. This planet may be the cradle of your civilization. A sudden burst of radiation disables your engines, and your ship crashes down. You have to explore the outer world and try to find and capture its mysterious inhabitants, the illuvials, to use them in battles later.
Illuvials have different affinities and classes, some of them are extremely rare, others are very easy to find. But all the Illuvians have symbiotic relationships with each other, called Synergy. Illuvials are cooperating in the battles, and it is crucial to take their synergy into consideration when assembling a team of creatures. A player can create a more powerful character by fusing two illuvials.
In your journey, across different parts of this mysterious world, you will encounter various illuvials and battle against them. If you subdue the creature, you can capture it with a Shard. The power of shards varies, so some of them can fail against the most powerful creatures. In the beginning, you will receive a number of free shards for the primary illuvials. And that means that you can test the game without any costs.
The game features the PVP arena where players can prove who is the superior hunter. And it is not just illuvials who can fight there! You can equip your hero with futuristic weapons enhanced with the essence of the illuvial.
$ETH is the primary currency that is used for all purchases and fees, including shares, modifications, wagering for battles, etc. Players can also spend $sILV2, a synthetic ILV token, on transactions that do not involve other players, for example, traveling. Players will not be able to buy and sell illuvial for $sILV2.
Illuvium also offers a number of exciting play-to-earn features, including earning in-game rewards in ILV through competitions and tournaments and completing PVE quests. You can also capture Illuvials, collect resources and items to trade them as NFTs on Illuvidex, the in-game marketplace.
The team behind the project is led by Warwick brothers, Kieron and Aaron, and includes Nate Wells, a game producer with over 20 years of experience in projects like The Last of Us, and Rise of the Tomb Raider, and the lead animator, Alexandre Belbari, who worked on Transformers, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxies, Godzilla, and other projects in ILM Lucasfilm.
Illuvium manages to maintain an impressive number of subscribers and attract new followers on social media for a game that is still under development. The game may feel as an attempt to involve the Pokèmon generation to the same type of game. But in fact its ecosystem is much wider and includes Illuvium Zero which allows players to collect resources and use them for moving through the main plot in Illuvium Overworld, or for the battles in Illuvium Arena. Overall, Illuvium looks like a very ambitious Web3 game with high-standard graphics, but at the time of writing (January 2022), the project is only running a closed Beta test for Overworld and Arena and Alpha test for Zero.
Big Time
Big time is a widely discussed Web3 RPG with an immersive lore and complex tokenomics.
Spacetime is collapsing, and different ages of history are overlapping. The forces of evil threaten humanity with extinction. Paradox Corporate, dubbed Big Time, is the company that owns time and sells Time Collisions for the people looking for salvation at the end of the universe. Time Collisions allow you to get back in time as quickly as walking through a doorway.
Time end is the refugee center at the end of spacetime that keeps all the knowledge and the technologies ever known to humanity. It is also a home for Evermore Academy with the greatest minds and heroes of all time. The Academy is the only chance to save history from the total collapse.
Before joining the game, you will have to select a character. Though, you will be able to change the hero after finding a special artifact, a pocket watch. These devices also allow you to save the game progress.
There are four classes of heroes to choose from:
Time Warrior taught by the legendary Genghis Khan who prefers brute force.
Chronomancer, a magician taught by the fabulous Merlin.
Shadowblade, a ninja taught by the spymaster Mochi Chiyome.
Quantum Fixer, a medic taught by the Founding Father Ben Franklin.
Big Time has a complex economy. The game features two types of NFTs: cosmetic and utility. Utility NFT gives you the power to produce, upgrade, and repair rare weapons, armor, and other items. You can get NFTs by defeating enemies or buy and sell them in the Big Time Marketplace. On top of that, the owners of Hourglass NFT can generate the $TIME tokens while playing the game. These tokens can be used to mint cosmetic NFTs.
The Big Time team has expertise in different industries, including music, films, games, and various companies, like Blizzard, EA Games, and Riot Games. At the time of writing (January 2023), Big Time has launched Beta testing available for the limited number of NFT and early access pass holders. Although the team does not share much information about the technical side of the project or how they are going to scale the game, it is safe to say that, after the official release, Big Time may be capable of challenging the traditional games in Web2 in regards to gameplay and lore.
Group II: Alpha testing
Champions Ascension
Champions Ascension may look like a simple, yet spectacular fighting simulator with outstanding graphics, but in fact the arena is a part of the massive metaverse featuring a wide range of extra abilities, including forging new items and land ownership.
Champions come from different worlds to Massina with the only goal of conquering the Colosseum Eternal. You have to collect, train, equip, and manage these brutal gladiators as a battle master, an ingenious alchemist, or a rich magnate.
The whole gameplay consists of three elements:
collecting and upgrading champions;
battling;
forging new items.
All the champions belong to one of 12 families grouped in six classes, with two families per class. There are seven essences, including life, death, arcane, water, fire, wind, and earth, that determine their abilities. Each hero can use five active functional parts, like fangs, wings, tail, etc., and multiple cosmetic ones. A specific essence, mentioned above, flows through the functional parts and provides a boost of energy. On top of that, the champions are rendered as 3D models and give you a chance to brag to other players with them. You can level up your champion by fighting in the arena and completing challenges. Thus, you will gain access to different battle modes and abilities. Players can also breed new champions by combining two existing heroes of the same level.
You can increase your chances to win the battle by equipping your champions with various weapons and using a wide range of movement combinations.
As we have mentioned before, you can forge gear for your champion by using limited Gear Blueprints. Forged Gear is stored as NFT that can be equipped by champions or sold to other players.
The game is planning to introduce land sales in the future and allow players to build dwellings, shops, forges, mines, and other facilities on the plots to serve the community needs.
The game is utilizing three tokens: $ESSENCE, $MASSINA, and $DIAMOND. The first one can be won in battles and challenges and can be used for many purposes, including breeding and crafting new gear. $MASSINA is earned through staking high-class champions and used for constructions and buying land. You can craft certain items and get access to some in-game services with this token. Like $MASSINA, you can earn $DIAMOND through staking high-class heroes and can use it to purchase premium gear.
Players will be able to trade the tokens for $ETH on the game’s native exchange. The team is planning to introduce more tokens if the project metaverse will expand.
The game is developed by Jam City, a mobile gaming giant based in the USA with more than 31M monthly active users and more than 1.3B downloads in 2021. At the time of writing this article (January 2023), you can download the pre-alpha version of the game and test the combat mode. But I believe that the game will have real success only after Jam City launches the diverse ecosystem with massive opportunities for players, including land ownership or forging new items. Failing that, the game will be a good example of Web3 fighting with stunning graphics and freedom of control.
The Beacon
The Beacon is a free action roguelike RPG developed by an indie game studio Skillcap, which aims to prove that pixel games still can bring a lot of fun even in 2023. The team behind the project did a great job and introduced a wide range of authentic characters in the world limited by pixels.
The game takes you to a faraway land, to the city of Altaris. The city is in danger as the Beacon, protecting it, is weakening. You venture out for a journey to find the cause of the waning and the way to sustain the power, however, you stumble upon an insane amount of monsters on the way that will try to undermine your mission.
The game loop is simple but entertaining. Players will have to choose a basic weapon and enter a dungeon, upgrade the weapon during the run, but they will lose the upgrades at the end, after dying or completion. Every dungeon will include a unique set of challenges and experiences.
Players can run through the dungeon alone or with their friends in the co-op mode.
The game also includes a social platform with a housing system. Players can decorate and customize their homes and showcase their hideouts to their gamemates afterwards.
Although The Beacon is a free-to-play game, the paid characters will have a number of benefits over the free ones. The paid characters will be able to use NFT items and will have access to all the competitions and incentives.
The Beacon is running on Arbitrum, an Ethereum Layer-2. The game is also integrated with TreasureDAO and, for that reason, it will incorporate $MAGIC, the TreasureDAO native token, into its economy. $BCN, the Beacon native currency, will be used together with $MAGIC for in-game purchases.
The Beacon released the early prototype, the Settlement launch, on November 26, 2022. It lacks most of the game mechanics, and the locations are limited to your house and the tavern. Overall, it is still an enjoyable experience, for that reason, we look forward to the launch of the main modes in late 2023.
Metalcore
MetalCore Alpha Gameplay Showcase Q4 2022
MetalCore is a free-to-play mechanized combat game with an open world. The game is developed by Studio369 having World of Mechs in the portfolio.
The lore of the game is quite simple. In 2273, the Solar Empire collapsed, and a civil war broke out. A brilliant scientist invented a device, called Fabricator, that can create everything from raw materials. The five giant ships ventured out into the void to find a new home for humanity, but only three of them reached the destination. But everything did not go according to the plan. The isolated people established the new brutal factions that started competing with each other after landing.
Before you start, you have to gain experience as an infantry trooper in the PVE mode. When you get the fourth level, you will be able to choose one of three competing factions: Gearbreakers, Metal Punks, or Holy Corp. Though, you can also stay unaligned as an Earther. Then, you can join the battle for the territory of the resource-rich planet as an infantry unit or a pilot of various vehicles and mechs. All the machines represent NFTs, you can earn them as a reward or mint your own tokens.
The game combines traditional FPS multiplayer game modes, like Base Defense, Domination, and Deathmatch, into a new one called the Battle Zone. A faction wins when it gains control of the most tactical points within a time limit. That includes a number of tasks, such as destroying the enemy base, defeating all the enemy units, eliminating enemy respawn points, etc. At the same time, players have a limited number of lives.
Players can already buy the Metalcore NFTs on OpenSea. But it is worth mentioning that the team highlighted their exclusive purpose of playing the game and did not make any statements about the token value. Although, there are no restrictions on the transactions with the tokens.
Metalcore has already launched Alpha testing. You can try to apply here. The final release is scheduled for the first half of 2023. The team behind the game, Studio369, is definitely experienced in building open-world mech games, since they have released World of Mechs with VR support. However, the early game testers admit that there is still room for minor improvements, like respawn timer, and emphasize that the demo did not include NFT functionality yet.
Delysium
Delysium: Highlights of Pre-Alpha Test
Delysium is an open-world and AI-powered MMO game that supports creating a wide range of physical assets and allows players to influence the gameplay and game modes by becoming Delysium Multiverse Operators.
Unlike many other futuristic titles, where the inhabitants of the planet have to find a new home in outer space or on the other planets, Delysium tells the completely different story of returning to Earth. In 2054 CE, humanity stopped all the space expeditions and called everybody back. The rush for space left the Earth with a huge workforce shortage. People had to apply AI almost into every aspect of their lives, and as a result the space travelers returned into an abundant and boundless digital utopia, known as Delysium, where they will have to face another form of digitized life, the AI MetaBeings.
AI Metabeings can own assets, participate in game modes, and earn income as real players. Each Metabeing has a complete neural system with different modules, including speech and behavior.
The game’s Alpha, released in October 2022, showcased the Battle Royale (PVP) mode of the game. Players will need to form a team of three to join a match, while each game may contain a maximum of 42 players. Players will have to choose a landing spot, and collect weapons and different items, while their only goal will be to survive using the most suitable tactics and cooperation. They can also try to improve their ranking in order to be rewarded with NFTs and in-game resources.
As we mentioned before, players can also influence the game mechanics by becoming Delysium Multiverse Operators, or DMOs. DMOs continuously work with the game team to introduce new game incentives for the players. This includes creating additional gaming modes (Battle Royale, Casual Royale, Arena Royale) free of charge or with entry fees and prizes. In addition, DMOs will be able to make suggestions on improving gameplay and assets to bring a higher level of experience to the players. The team will provide a DMO with a full set of content, the UGC editor, and the monetization tools. It will not have to set up a server, but will have to share generated revenue with the game team. To become a DMO, you have to purchase a Delysium Multiverse License NFT after the initial launch or on the secondary market.
Delysium is backed by a team of leading industry producers from Ubisoft, EA, Scopely, etc., and engineers with more than 10 years of experience on average in various AAA projects. And that is definitely a strong side. However, Delysium success mostly depends on DMOs’ performance. For this reason, the game has to develop an active network of operators to engage and entertain the players.
Delysium Alpha is available for playing via the launcher, and, according to the project’s roadmap, DMOs will start operating the universes in March 2023.
Guild of Guardians
Guild of Guardians is a multiplayer fantasy RPG where players create dream teams and compete to earn rewards. Initially the game will be available on Android and iOS devices.
The game loop is pretty simple. A player takes a team to an uncharted dungeon. Each dungeon is unique and filled with monsters, bosses, and traps. Players earn rewards such as resources, currency, and equipment. The resources allow players to create items and summon heroes that can be traded after. Players can use new heroes and upgrade the existing ones to venture into progressively harder dungeons.
Team strategy is a very important part of the game. Before entering a dungeon, you will have to form your strategy and the team of heroes according to the desired playstyle. Heroes are created by summoning. To do this, you will need to purchase a summon or earn summoning shards in the game.
Heroes have several attributes, including faction, class, element, etc., that determine their combat style, strengths, and weaknesses.
Pets are creatures that can bring various benefits to your team, such as increasing the number of resources or dungeon rewards.
Guild of Guardians is not planning to sell equipment to ensure that the economy is entirely player-driven and fair. At the same time, there are various ways for players to earn rewards, including crafting and creating NFT items with materials from dungeons, merging heroes, and collecting daily token rewards and leaderboard prizes.
The Guild of Guardians Gem, or $GOG, is an ERC-20 token used for multiple purposes in the game. You will need Gems to mint an NFT, buy items on the primary or the secondary market, and participate in voting or staking.
The game is being developed by the industry giant Immutable, known for launching Gods Unchained before, together with the Ukrainian game studio Stepico Games which specializes in strategies and RPGs. At the time of writing (January 2022), the game has closed applications for the Pre-Alpha demo, while the official launch is scheduled for the second half of 2023. To sum it up, Guilds of Guardians seems to be a perfect combination of action and RPG, inspired by famous titles like Diablo or Dungeon Dragons. The only thing the game is missing is a browser version, but that is just my personal opinion.
Group III: Under active development
Civitas
Civitas is a unique Web3 game for at least two reasons. First of all, a city-building strategy is quite an uncommon genre in Web3 gaming. It is a city-building strategy. Secondly, the game is developed by gaming industry veterans.
Civitas may look like the popular Sid Meier's Civilization, but the game is driven and owned by the community. Every structure player constructs will influence the land’s statistics and access to passive resources. Players also have to work together within their city subDAO to construct more advanced buildings, accumulate power, and progress to the next era.
You can play as a Citizen or as a Nomad. Once you acquire CITI tokens and a land NFT, you will become a Citizen. You will have the exclusive power to participate in subDAO governance and vote for council members. On the other hand, you can customize your plot of land without being a citizen. In this case, you will be a Nomad. Free players will be considered Nomads, but they will have access to building, harvesting, crafting, and other features, with voting power.
A CITI token is the in-game currency running on the Ethereum blockchain. It is used for DAO governance and as utility tokens. Players can earn in-game rewards in these tokens and NFTs through harvesting resources, completing quests, trading, and via Augmented Reality exploration. The game is planning to implement the AR interface and allow players to explore the world via Mario Party-inspired mini-games.
The cities within Civitas will function as a state with an independent government of a certain subDAO. The cities are sharing the location with their real-world counterparts on the map. However, it is the only connection between them. Each virtual city has a tower in the center, which is visually unique for each subDAO. The towers serve as a city HQ and a place where subDAOs members cast their votes.
Overall, Civitas is a breakthrough Web3 game exploring the advantages of the city-building simulator and AR capabilities and brought to the gamers by the developers of EVE Online, Battlefield, and other successful gaming franchises. But, at this point, we have little information about the final release date, though, the project’s roadmap claims that the Alpha will be available in early 2023. I hope that the game developers will embody all their ambitious plans to implement DAO governance and AR opportunities after the final release and surprise the gamers’ community with a completely new product they have never seen before.
Shrapnel
Shrapnel is a blockchain FPS developed by a team of professionals previously involved in producing some of the biggest entertainment franchises, including HALO, Call of Duty, and Westworld. The game offers a rich set of player-creation tools and combines combat, creation, and curation, at the same time, the players on the platform and act as an endless content supply for the game. In a nutshell, Shrapnel includes a vast amount of user-generated content backed by a strong community of creators.
In a Shrapnel world, a massive asteroid collided with the Moon and caused a meteorite bombardment on the Earth. That created a 500 km band of uninhabited land around the Earth known as the Sacrifice Zone, or simply the Zone. A new precious material, Compound Sigma, altering the classic laws of physics, was discovered in the area. Nations and corporations assembled their own military corps and started battling for control over world-changing resources there.
Players need to find and extract valuable resources in The Zone. Before entering the battle, they have to outfit their operators with gear, which represents NFTs. Operators drop gear after they are shot, and the winner can collect it. Another way to get new gear is by collecting the mysterious Compound Sigma and building loadouts with it.
There are three classes of operators: Assault, Survivalist, or Infosec, each one with its own skill-based progression tree. Weaknesses of certain classes can be complemented by developing complex strategies and building alliances. On top of that, Shrapnel features a vast inventory for gamers, including custom weapons, armor, consumables (like medkits and grenades, which are not tokenized), and a wide range of devices.
As it was mentioned before, Shrapnel is driven by user-generated content, that includes custom NFTs of different gear, vanity items, and maps designed by users. Furthermore, the game features a DAO voting system that allows the community to make decisions on further development.
SHARP is an ERC-20 token used for platform governance and as a medium of interchange, including trading on the native marketplace and paying fees for minting NFTs. Creators will also get rewards for developing content and maps.
Shrapnel looks like an ambitious blockbuster game with complex mechanics and a wide range of opportunities for players, but at the time of writing (January 2023) it does not have a playable prototype, while the release date is also unclear. One thing is certain at this point: the team has many things to do to meet the expectations of the fans after showcasing their cinematic trailers.
Blocklords
Blocklords is another strategy on our radar exploring the benefits of Web3 gaming. Blocklords is a medieval world directly shaped by the players. You can choose your way in this metaverse and join it as a peaceful Farmer, guard it as Knight, become a loot-hungry Raider, or even rule it as the noble Lord or Lady.
Blocklords aims to give players the freedom of decisions to shape the world on the highest level. No matter if you decide to be a simple farmer or create complex strategies to rise to the throne, the path of your hero will be determined by your choices and selected skills. With this being said, we can break the gameplay into four basic parts: farm, fight, rule, and conquer.
If you do not own a Hero, you will join the game as a Farmer. You will be able to select the land plot on the map in the region controlled by a certain Lord or Lady. As a Farmer, you will work, harvest, and build houses to recruit more Heroes to help you. You also can have other NPCs at your farm as helping hands, though, they will require food. As we mentioned before, you can recruit farmers from other players and place them in the buildings on your farm to receive bonuses. Farmers can also explore other ways of making a profit, including processing resources, crafting items and buildings, and trading at markets.
Players who save enough resources may leave their farms and start building an army as a Knight or a Raider. As a raider, you will face high risk and limited time to steal as much loot as possible, yet your reward may be great. Knights, on the other hand, are devoted to serving a Lord for a fixed salary.
Successful players may rise through the ranks and claim a ruling role as a Lord or a Lady. They will have to control regions, and their actions will have a direct impact on the world and the players in it. They will be responsible for collecting taxes and resources from Farmers, offering rewards to Knights, as well as managing and developing cities and infrastructure for defensive purposes.
The most effective players will have a chance to rise to the ultimate rank of King or Queen and lead a nation which is the largest territory type in the game. This includes managing currencies, policies, diplomacy, trade agreements, armies, and regions.
At this point, we have a little information about the game economics, but we certainly know that every hero is unique and stored on the blockchain. Players have to connect a wallet to mint a hero. Your hero’s value will depend on your efforts and skills and will directly correlate with the utility that it has within the game.
Blocklords is being actively developed at the moment without any specific release date. However, players can already pre-register for early access by buying or claiming a banner chest.
Final thoughts
2022 was a revolutionary year for Web3 gaming as it introduced many titles with high-level gameplay that was not simply focused on farming. However, it was just the beginning.
The list of games above proves that Web3 game developers and studios are not going to stop there, and many of them are planning to roll out truly blockbuster projects in 2023. The new generation of games will have a rich ecosystem with user-generated content and game options previously attributed to traditional games. On the other hand, these games will include a lot of rewarding opportunities for the players, including trading NFTs and engaging in different competitions.
As you may have noticed, Web3 games are becoming more complex, and players can easily get confused by the vast amount of Web3 titles.
